Space25: Seedlings of Time

We are delighted to present this collaboration between space25 and Atelier Mondial: Seedlings of Time brings together five positions by artists who travelled the world with Atelier Mondial for several months, with these residencies leaving questions and traces in their works – like seeds that suddenly begin to sprout.

During her stay in Kinshasa, Daniela Brugger has embarked on a new phase of her artistic research, which deals with the often invisible and non-binary aspects of digital technologies. Her interest lies in (infra)structures and the materiality of digital systems, including their (colonial) history. Leonardo Bürgi Tenorio explored the cultural landscape surrounding rice fields and a type of mould (kōji) found there in Japan in order to reflect on the connection between culture and nature. During a stay in Bali, Sara Gassmann discovered her fascination with shadow puppets and explored light and shadow in her work, both in terms of content and visually. she learned the technique of shadow play and, in dialogue with sound artist Janiv Oron, translated it into her own language. Yota Tsotra's painting, on the other hand, explores the theme of innocence as a form of resistance – as an ability to survive in a constantly changing world. Her works remind us that pausing, marvelling and connecting with nature are ways to find inner strength. Finally, Helena Uambembe from South Africa is currently spending three months in Basel – her video installation explores how closely connected worlds, both small and large, can suddenly drift apart.
